Necklace length changes where a chain or pendant sits. The same length can look different depending on neck circumference, height, body proportions, neckline, and pendant size, so use the chart as a placement guide rather than an exact promise.

Common Necklace Lengths

  • 16 in / 40.5 cm — close to the base of the neck or collarbone; useful as a short first layer.
  • 18 in / 45.7 cm — at or just below the collarbone on many wearers; a versatile pendant length.
  • 20 in / 50.8 cm — below the collarbone; creates more separation from a shorter chain.
  • 22 in / 55.9 cm — upper-chest placement on many wearers; a more relaxed drop.
  • 24 in / 61 cm — a longer mid-chest layer that works well below shorter necklaces.
  • 30 in / 76 cm — a long, lower placement for statement wear or a dramatic final layer.
